 Paroedura picta

The Paroedura picta is a nocturnal gecko from Madagascar. Here he lives in the savanna, dry forests and desert-like areas. These areas have greater variations between daytime and nighttime temperatures.

The Paroedura picta hunts at dawn and at night, where it feeds, in its natural environment, from various insects, spiders and worms.

The attitude of Paroedura picta takes place individually in terrariums from a size of 60x40x40cm. It is, however, the bigger, the better.

Groups of 3 female animals can be housed in terrariums measuring 120x60x60cm. Male animals should be added only for mating, for a few weeks.

Reports of successful male group husbandry exist, but can not be substantiated or recommended by us.

The breeding of Paroedura picta is comparatively easy, after a successful mating, the female can produce several eggs. Therefore, a female animal should have contact with a male only every 1-2 years, otherwise their lifetime will be shortened rapidly.

The eggs should be incubated at a temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius for 3-4 months.

From these eggs then both sexes hatch, these can be determined safely after about 3 months after hatching.
